  • How to ID a Pet

One of the most essential components of pet ownership is making sure your pet wears a collar with the necessary identification tags. These tags may be purchased from a variety of retailers, including the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. Remember, if your contact information changes, you need to update your pet’s tags and notify your vet and other respective pet agencies immediately.

    Microchips

Another excellent advantage for pet identification is the insertion of a microchip, which allows your pet to be identified even if its collar or tags are missing. A microchip is the size of a long grain rice kernel and is easily implanted under the skin of your pet. It is good for the life of the animal and all shelters scan for microchips on new animals coming into the shelter. More information concerning microchips can be obtained at the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, your veterinarian, and at www.petid.com.
