Feb 21st, SEVHS headed to McKenna’s for our first Mutt Monday. What a great evening it was as Mike at McKenna’s helped support SEVHS by donating 10% of their receipts during the evening meal from 5-7 PM. Also, SEVHS had donation jars on the table all day so that people of the community could make a donation during the day.

Thanks for allowing us to adopt our little Rubi, previously known as Rosie. It has been 5 weeks now and it feels like she has always been with us. She is an excellent student and she enjoys backyard archeology, redesigning of mommy’s shoes and yes, even art (inside car windows). We call it “Rubi Art.”

On Monday, February 7, 2010, I was chosen to represent SEVHS at the Silver Sands Middle School. Quite honestly, I think they were feeling sorry for me, and thought I needed to get out of the kennel (and work off some calories!) A volunteer came and picked me up and off we went to Port Orange! The school had done a fundraiser and collected enough wish list items to fill two trucks, plus money for our emergency medical fund! I visited several classrooms including, Mrs. Wheeler’s 8th grade class, Mrs. Milton’s 6th grade class, Mr Talbott’s 6th grade, Mrs. Barber’s 6th grade, and Mrs. Sagrave’s 7th grade class. I made so many new friends along the way. They even wanted to have their picture taken with me. I felt like a star!

Saturday, Jan 22nd, 2011, Southeast Volusia Humane Society took off with dogs and success. Two hundred and twenty participates met at Norwood’s Saturday morning for a 5K, Dog Dash, and Dog walk. Happy people with cold rosy cheeks begin warm-up. With excitement in the air, the runners step to the start line awaiting County Councilwomen Joie Alexander to say “Ready, Set, Go.” Runners hit the streets for a 3.2 mile run throughout the streets and Sapphire Park. Just under eighteen minutes, the runners began crossing the finish line. After all the runners were back, Joie started the Dog Dash/Dog Walk, a ½ mile jog or walk with your dog. Who let the dogs out?

Molly was adopted by a young couple, Donna and Rob, at the Go Dog Go 5k Run, Saturday, January 22nd. Molly’s new parents are both runners and look forward to Molly running with them. Congratulations to Donna, Rob, and Molly!

Four days before Christmas, my two daughters and I came to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society with a single intention: to find a new member for our family. We had checked out SVHS’s website before coming and we came to look at the Society’s cats and kittens. That was when we discovered Moe.

My name is Taylor Nicole, I’m sixteen years old and I believe that every dog deserves a seccond chance.

In our time of need, we give kudos to Bert Fish Medical Hospital in New Smyrna Beach for stepping outside the box by sacrificing themselves to help others. These others being our four-legged, furry, friends at the Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

Fritz was adopted by Tom, Donna and their daughter Hayley before she even had a chance to get on the website. Fritz, a member of the Red Collar Society, is an 8 year old Brindle Dachshund.

During a recent cold snap, employees of SEVHS took care of some of the smallest of God’s four legged creatures.

Have you ever met the Ropps? Sounds like a great movie, doesn’t it? “ Meet the Ropp’s…” If you haven’t, let me tell you about this wonderful family that truly gives from their heart.

The Southeast Volusia Humane Society quarterly membership meeting will be held in the SEVHS classroom at 5:45pm on January 13th, 2011.

This year, the Jackpot Bingo Angel Tree Fundraiser will support the animals at the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. Bring a donation gift (click here for a list of daily needs) and receive a FREE jackpot game! Come play bingo with us and help support the animals!

What is all this hustle and bustle that I am talking about? It’s our new overnight holding pens. We certainly needed a new look in the front lawn of the shelter. The new holding pens are bigger, safer, warmer, roomier, and much nicer looking. Tom takes a few scraps of donated lumber, fencing, and this and that and re-builds to make things look awesome. Also, thank you to Bob B. and Justin for volunteering your time and hard work to help Tom make our shelter look it’s very best.

On Saturday, December 04, 2010, the sun was out and the Christmas Parade began. Southeast Volusia County Humane Society decorated their van with garland, bulbs, lights, and wrapping paper. You could feel “Christmas” in the air. It came not by snowflakes falling to the ground or the temperature below 32 degrees, but instead, there was music in the air, bands playing, horses trotting, Santa hats atop many heads, floats being put together, and hustle and bustle which all began at the end of Flagler St. by the beach. The parade was even better this year.

Southeast Volusia Humane Society presents Go Dog Go! 3rd Annual 5k Run to benefit the pets at SEVHS on January 22, 2010 at Norwoods in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Bob and Shirley adopted little Dink before he even had a chance to get on the website. They came by the shelter and it was instant bonding for all three of them.

Many doggie vendors and animal lovers came out to spend the day. It was a day where many rescue groups brought animals in hopes of finding forever homes for them. SEVHS had a great day with 3 adoptions.

For the entire month of November, Port Orange Elementary will be collecting gifts for the shelter and the cats & dogs that live there. See how you can help!

Southeast Volusia Humane Society had a great day at the Halifax Art Fair on November 6, 2010. The day started a bit chilly and breezy but that didn’t stop our dogs. They could hardly stand waiting to get out into the crowds of people.

The morning was an early awakening to lots of dogs and their owners dressed for the Halloween festivities. It began with a Mutt Strut around the lake to get the blood flowing.

And here we are at Port Orange Family Days…thousands of happy people–adults, children, and yes, four legged fur children. The fur children came in all sizes–big, small, long hair, short hair, and all wagging their tails.

Southeast Volusia Humane Society is struggling, like all other non-profits, to keep our heads above water and keep the front door open. While we are truly allocating what donations we do receive to literally stay open, other missions within our humane society are suffering. One such mission is our emergency medical fund which we have a continual need of monies.

We our proud new parents of a dog formally known as Sandy. We were heartbroken as we just recently lost our beloved Lambchop and decided to go to the shelter to see about adopting a new pet. As I walked into the kennel our eyes met and I knew she was the one for me.

We adopted Sassafras, Sassy for short, a special needs dog as she had been attacked when she was just a baby. She had serious injuries and despite all that, only wanted to be held and loved on.

Marlene and Lester came by the shelter on July 31st and decided to go home with Vinny, the newest addition to their family.

Lady, soon to be renamed, Lady Bug, was adopted by Michael, Carla and their son Ryan.

Leon gets adopted by Jonna and Holly.

Rosco found a forever home with Eric, Deniellei, and their daughter, Maddison. He also gains a fur-sister named Roxi.

Merk’s Bar and Grill, located on the North Causeway, in New Smyrna Beach, held its first annual Wags and Wheels Car/Dog Wash to benefit the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, in New Smyrna Beach, and Journey’s End Animal Sanctuary, located in Deland. The event, which took place on Saturday, July 17th, collected donations for both organizations and the response of the community was overwhelming. Money is desperately needed, especially in this economy.

Under bright blue skies and mild temperatures many people welcomed in the first day of spring on Saturday, March 20th 2010, at the Second Annual Spring Fling sponsored by the Halifax Veterinary Center in Port Orange, Fl. “Luv the Dog” greeted people as they arrived for the event. Games were enjoyed by our two legged, as well as our four legged friends.

Candi is a female Doxie mix who is four months old and weighs a whopping 8lbs! Candi is especially lucky because her new owner is nine year old Zane. She is also going to join a new bird friend named Halo.

The two sisters were known as Teeny and Teencie but will have new names in their new forever home. They will now be known as Abbie and Callie. The two little girls are sure to bring lots of joy and laughter to Glenn and Sherry’s home.

Melville was adopted today by his new friend, Steve. He will join another kitty, a Yorkshire Terrier, and a German Shepherd mix. What a wonderful family for Melville!

We didn’t even get this little girl photographed for the website before she was adopted today into a very loving home. Lindy-Mae will make a great companion for her new mommy, Mary Lou.

Mr. Bill stole my heart. He has joined our family and settled right in. He has learned the word “treat” very quickly and the other boys need to get out of his way as he makes his way to his pedestal.

Titan is the best dog I have ever had. I don’t think he realizes he is a big dog. He sits in our lap in the evening and, on a couple of occasions, took his position on the top of Jeff’s chair with Jeff in it.

Rex is a beautiful, gentle soul and very well-mannered. His new “Dad” is Bruce and Rex has already stolen his heart.

Party Pom was adopted before we even got to photograph him for the website. This little tri-colored Pomeranian is approximately 8-9 months old and is quite a sweetie!

Sweet little “Abby” finds a home. Abby has been adopted by Curtis and will soon be in her new forever home.

Mojo was officially adopted on December 28, 2009. He is enjoying his new home with acres to run on and a loving family.

Hershey was adopted this morning from Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

Beatle has been adopted. Coach Michael had visited her several times and today she got to go home with him to her new forever home.

The Shelter is excited to announce a new adoption. The dog that was adopted is Zena. Zena will be the only fur child in this family.
