Feb 21st, SEVHS headed to McKenna’s for our first Mutt Monday. What a great evening it was as Mike at McKenna’s helped support SEVHS by donating 10% of their receipts during the evening meal from 5-7 PM. Also, SEVHS had donation jars on the table all day so that people of the community could make a donation during the day.

Saturday, Jan 22nd, 2011, Southeast Volusia Humane Society took off with dogs and success. Two hundred and twenty participates met at Norwood’s Saturday morning for a 5K, Dog Dash, and Dog walk. Happy people with cold rosy cheeks begin warm-up. With excitement in the air, the runners step to the start line awaiting County Councilwomen Joie Alexander to say “Ready, Set, Go.” Runners hit the streets for a 3.2 mile run throughout the streets and Sapphire Park. Just under eighteen minutes, the runners began crossing the finish line. After all the runners were back, Joie started the Dog Dash/Dog Walk, a ½ mile jog or walk with your dog. Who let the dogs out?

Have you ever met the Ropps? Sounds like a great movie, doesn’t it? “ Meet the Ropp’s…” If you haven’t, let me tell you about this wonderful family that truly gives from their heart.

On Saturday, December 04, 2010, the sun was out and the Christmas Parade began. Southeast Volusia County Humane Society decorated their van with garland, bulbs, lights, and wrapping paper. You could feel “Christmas” in the air. It came not by snowflakes falling to the ground or the temperature below 32 degrees, but instead, there was music in the air, bands playing, horses trotting, Santa hats atop many heads, floats being put together, and hustle and bustle which all began at the end of Flagler St. by the beach. The parade was even better this year.

Many doggie vendors and animal lovers came out to spend the day. It was a day where many rescue groups brought animals in hopes of finding forever homes for them. SEVHS had a great day with 3 adoptions.

Southeast Volusia Humane Society had a great day at the Halifax Art Fair on November 6, 2010. The day started a bit chilly and breezy but that didn’t stop our dogs. They could hardly stand waiting to get out into the crowds of people.

The morning was an early awakening to lots of dogs and their owners dressed for the Halloween festivities. It began with a Mutt Strut around the lake to get the blood flowing.

Southeast Volusia Humane Society took a field trip to the New Smyrna Beach Library on October 16th 2010. The Library has a great interest in the lives of our animals and is celebrating National Adoption Month. It has a wonderful display and slideshow of pets along with suggested reading for caring for your animals.

And here we are at Port Orange Family Days…thousands of happy people–adults, children, and yes, four legged fur children. The fur children came in all sizes–big, small, long hair, short hair, and all wagging their tails.

Merk’s Bar and Grill, located on the North Causeway, in New Smyrna Beach, held its first annual Wags and Wheels Car/Dog Wash to benefit the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, in New Smyrna Beach, and Journey’s End Animal Sanctuary, located in Deland. The event, which took place on Saturday, July 17th, collected donations for both organizations and the response of the community was overwhelming. Money is desperately needed, especially in this economy.

Under bright blue skies and mild temperatures many people welcomed in the first day of spring on Saturday, March 20th 2010, at the Second Annual Spring Fling sponsored by the Halifax Veterinary Center in Port Orange, Fl. “Luv the Dog” greeted people as they arrived for the event. Games were enjoyed by our two legged, as well as our four legged friends.

On Tuesday, December 22, 2009 the Southeast Volusia Humane Society’s Board hosted a ham dinner and all the trimmings for the employees at the Shelter. The dinner was a thank you from the Board for all the hard work the Employees do daily in caring for the animals at the Shelter. The attached [...]

On Saturday, December 05, 2009, after two days of steady rain, the sun came out and the Christmas Parade began. Southeast Volusia Humane Society decorated their van with garland, bulbs, lights, and wrapping paper. The van looked great! Thank goodness it stopped raining and the parade was a big success. Southeast Volusia Humane Society is truly loved by many in our sweet paradise community. We handed out candy, dog bones, and flyers. The Southeast Volusia Humane Society joined their mascot “LUV” at the Annual New Smyrna Beach Halloween Parade. Hundreds of children and adults enjoyed trick-or-treating and marched in the parade at Canal Street on October 31, 2009.

The Southeast Volusia Humane Society pets were such a hit at this years Port Orange Family Days event.

The Sophie’s Circle yard/bake sale at the Southeast Volusia Humane Society was a huge success. Thank you to all who participated in the event and all the SEVHS supporters who attended.

The Southeast Volusia Humane Society’s inaugural “Go Dog Go” 5-kilometer run and 1-mile fun walk brought out more than 300 human and canine participants.

Yappy Hour was held Wednesday, January 14th at Hooters and it was chilly!

If you missed Yappy Hour at Hooters you missed a great party! Sophie and all of her friends brought down the house. They came from all around. We had all shapes and sizes of dgs including one dressed up like a lobster. the door prizes were to numerous to mention, but we wold like to say thank yo to all who donated.

Southeast Volusia Humane Society participated in Sheriff Ben Johnson’s Battle of the Badges Family Funfest and Inshore Fishing Tournament at Riverside Park in New Smyrna Beach. The Humane Society had a booth set up both Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st. People and families of all ages enjoyed meeting the adoptable pets and the pets had a great time too!

Radosta Photography held a “pawfict” photo shoot on Saturday, July 26th. Lori Radosta, owner of Radosta Photography located in the Ravenwood Plaza in Port Orange put on a very successful fundraiser for the Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

The Halifax Veterinary Clinic of Port Orange let the dogs (and cats) out Saturday, June 14, during a fundraising event for the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. Activities included contests, games, adoption booths and agility demonstrations. Visitors were able to buy raffle tickets for prizes and enter their canines in a variety of contests.

The Southeast Volusia Humane Society 17th Annual Festival for Pets was held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 1200 S. Glencoe Road in New Smyrna Beach. Many people arrived with their pets ready for the contests and festivities. SEVHS is proud to hold yet another successful Festival for Pets!
